Three Friends and a Bag of Gold

Moral Story in English for Inter Part-1 (For Average & Weak Students)

3. Three Friends and a Bag of Gold

Storytelling is as old as man. It has been one of the greatest sources of preaching moral values because every story is written with some moral purpose. All the prophets, saints, religious scholars, and teachers have been adopting it as a source of preaching any kind of morality. If one follows the lesson preached in the story, one can avoid many perils and problems. The story “Three Friends and a Bag of Gold” also gives us a sublime moral lesson.

Three Friends and a Bag of Gold

Once, three friends set out to find a job to earn their livelihood. They promised to help each other through thick and thin. While passing through a jungle, they found a bag of gold coins near a tree. Their joy knew no bounds. They decided to divide the coins equally among themselves. However, each in his heart of hearts wanted to have all the coins himself.

Soon after, they felt hungry. They sent one of them to bring food from a village. The guy who was sent to bring food was a greedy person. He bought some poison and mixed it into the food. When he came back, the other two who had already made a plan to kill him attacked him and put him to death. After killing him, they began to take poisoned food. They died on the spot. The coins of gold were of no use. We learn from the story: “Greed is a curse.”

Moral Lesson:

1. Greed is a curse.

2. He who digs a pit for others, himself falls into it.
